In May 2023 Helen and Ingrid once again led an intrepid group of mosaic enthusiasts on an action packed 14 day tour of mosaics in Southern Italy.
Starting in Naples, the group toured the nearby ancient sites of Herculaneum, Pompeii and Oplontis. These visits were richly narrated by the astoundingly knowledgeable, Tour Guide Dr Daniela Mantice. Visits then to see the Naples Archaeological Museum’s collection of mosaics and the Farnese marbles, opera at Teatro di San Carlo, and a sea journey across the Bay of Naples to the atmospheric Isola di Procida for an indulgent seafood lunch – rounded off four rich days in Naples before flying to Catania in Sicily.
The indulgent boutique accommodation – wine relais Feudi del Pisciotto – was the perfect base for exploring the nearby Villa Romana del Casale at Piazza Armerina. Inspired by the mosaics there, a lively five day neo-Roman mosaic workshop followed. Led by Ravenna mosaic teacher Arianna Gallo (Koko Mosaico) at our private villa Le Case di Tindari, the pool-side studio with spectacular views over the Aeolian Sea offered a splendid location for combining work and play. Evening meals were held at the nearby Villa Dionysius, overlooking a second infinity pool and breathtaking Mediterranean sunsets.
After a quick blast of mosaics in Cefalu, Palermo and Monreale, the tour ended in Palermo.
